Curriculum Development

The YHGSA’s Curriculum Development Strategy comprises of four main elements. These are:

1 The development of a Global Dimension Toolkit
This toolkit aims at helping schools incorporate the GlobalDimension into their School Improvement Plan and the taught curriculum.

2 The setting up of a Curriculum Development Network
The YHGSA’s Curriculum Development Group is currently setting up a Global Dimension Curriculum Development Network of LEA advisers and ASTs (Advanced Skills Teachers). This network will provide support LEAs and help set the direction for the the association’s curriculum development work.

3 The setting up of a a Global Steps Grant
The association has set up a small fund for schools to support innovative initiatives to enhance the global dimension of the curriculum. This will enable schools will to access funding to support mini Curriculum Development programmes (around £500-750 per programme). Four schools have been selected to pilot the first year of this award. The Curriculum Development group is in the process of developing a set of guidelines & an application form for further schools to access the Global Steps Grant.

4 The Global Schools Award Scheme
This scheme is designed to recognise the achievements of schools in teaching the Global Dimension of the curriculum. The YHGSA is currently developing a set of benchmarks which schools can use to measure their success at delivering the global dimension. Schools who can demonstrate their progress will be able to apply for a Global Schools Award.
