Centre for Global Education York

The CGE provides a resources centre and support to teachers, student teachers and community groups. It also offers training on all areas of the global dimension.

9x9x9:building global connections
A 3-year project funded by DFID. This project is working with primary schools that have global school partnerships with Ghana. During the project pupils will be looking at the millennium goals and considering issues such as health, education and environmental issues that effect nine year olds in York and Fanteakwa both now and in the past and consider what it might be like for 9 year olds in the future. Sans Frontières/Sin Fronteras! – French & Spanish engaging with the wider world
A 3-year language project funded by The Department for International Development (DFID). The objective of this project is to work with primary school teachers of Spanish and French to embed the global dimension into their existing schemes of work. This will enable pupils to develop their language skills while raising their awareness of the wider world and promoting a sense of their own role as responsible global citizens. Read more…

Global Dimensions in the Secondary Curriculum
GE has funding for the next 3 years from DFID to work in partnership with 6 secondary schools to develop the global dimension and sustainable development into the secondary curriculum. Read more…

York Young Peoples’ Action Group
The project is funded by DCSF for 2 years from April 2009 with the aim of encouraging young people’s participation in democracy around youth choices and opportunities and of creating greater sustainability for future generations in York. Read more…

FREE AT LAST
A traveling exhibition about the Slave Trade and includes panels on the connections between Yorkshire and the slave trade in the Caribbean. The exhibition is very portable and can be borrowed by schools and community groups contact cge@yorksj.ac.uk There are also primary and secondary teaching materials to support the exhibition.
