Search tips

To search the database simply enter keywords, a phrase in quotes or a question in the search box on the main search page. For more options in narrowing your search, use the advanced search.

Search keywords

The search engine works in a very similar way to Google: it will try to match all your exact keywords by default. For more precise searching, you can use NOT or OR between words, or you can add + or - to the beginning of words. To search for a specific phrase, surround the words in quotes. Examples:

  • global citizenship matches items containing both exact words
  • "global citizenship" matches the exact phrase only
  • global, citizenship matches items with both the exact or related words such as "globalisation"
  • global OR citizenship matches any of the exact or related words
  • global NOT citizenship (or global -citizenship) matches items containing "global" but not if they also contain "citizenship"
  • cit* matches any word beginning with "cit"

You can mix phrases and separate keywords:

  • "global dimension" secondary matches only items containing both the phrase "global dimension" and the keyword "secondary"

Searches are case-sensitive only when you enter mixed case keywords, eg "citizenship" will only match "citizenship" and not "Citizenship".

Questions

You can also enter questions in plain English, such as How do I teach the global dimension?
